At the invitation of Prof. Volker ter Meulen, president of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina, CAS President Lu Yongxiang visited Germany from Sept. 18 to 20.
At the invitation of Prof. Volker ter Meulen, president of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina (Leopoldina for short), CAS President Lu Yongxiang, who is also vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the China's top legislature NPC, visited Germany from Sept. 18 to 20.
A ceremony was held to confer Prof. Lu the certificate of Leopoldina membership, an epithet to distinguish scientists for their academic excellence. At the ceremony, Prof. Volker ter Meulen spoken highly of Prof. Lu's outstanding achievements to the studies of fluid dynamics and to the development of Sino-German S&T cooperation. "It's not only a personal honor for me," says Prof. Lu, "it belongs to the whole CAS."
During his stay in Germany, Prof. Lu also visited BMW workshops for its new 3 series of automobile products in Leipzig, Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics in Halle, and Institute of Biology at Martin-Luther-University. At the end of his visit, Prof. Lu held talks with Mayor of the City of Halle, Ms. Ingrid Haeussler.
